Letter below from COLAB’s Andy Caldwell:
As mentioned previously, the county planning commission is poised to give the Lompoc Wind Energy Farm a get out of jail card free for violating their permit to operate as it relates to killing eagles.
This is outrageous on their part. For the past 40 plus years the county and the USFWS has bludgeoned both private and public sector entities with overwrought and overdetermined enforcement of the ESA above and beyond both the letter and spirit of the law.
But now suddenly, the planning commissioners, on the record, claimed the moral imperative to allow the project operators to kill eagles without a take permit which was a requirement of their conditions of approval, because of the greater good of renewable energy???
We are retaining an attorney to fight this abuse, an old friend of ours from Pacific Legal Foundation. [edited: Resume is available at request].

Fund the Jail
Joan Hartman: We deserve safety in Santa Barbara County! Fund the county jail proposal submitted by Sheriff Brown
Joan Hartman, Santa Barbara County District 3 Supervisor, made the motion to reduce the county jail capacity in the recent May budget workshops.
Supervisor Hartman's motion is contrary to the advice of Sheriff Bill Brown, the police chiefs of Lompoc, Santa Maria, Guadalupe and the head of the Deputy Sheriff's Association.
What does Hartman know about crime that law enforcement does not?
Supervisor Hartman's motion is to proceed with a plan that will result in a capacity of 728 inmates (of note, there were 771 jailed at the time of the May meeting).
Sheriff Bill Brown's guidance, given the expected increase in population as evidenced by the county's own housing initiatives, is to increase the jail capacity to 928. Nearly 90 percent of people in county jail, Brown told the supervisors, had been charged with felonies.
Proceeding with a plan that will limit the capacity of our county jails to 728 down from the requested 958 that Brown and the police chiefs recommend will make our communities less safe.
Use the AlignAct service to send Joan Hartman and the other soft on crime Supervisors --Das Williams, and Laura Capps a message today.

Sign the Declaration in opposition of the Biden Administration’s latest move to destroy American Sovereignty
Given the WHO’s appalling record, it is outrageous that the Biden administration is working to give the WHO and its Director-General more power over sovereign nations, including the United States. Yet, U.S. government officials are actively negotiating amendments to existing International Health Regulations and a new treaty governing future pandemics. These accords would effectively repose in Dr. Tedros the authority unilaterally to dictate what constitutes an actual or potential Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) and to order how affected nations must respond.
Exit the WHO

Title IX Action
Title IX Take Action NOW
The Biden Administration has proposed changing Title IX, specifically as it relates to females in athletics.
The proposed changes to Title IX raise significant concerns among parents, educators, and lawmakers across the country, because of the damaging impacts such a change will have on both the mental and physical well-being of female student athletes.
Title IX was created to ensure opportunities for fair and safe competition for biological female athletes in this country - which means that these changes undermine the very purpose of the law.
